Beaches

Main Beach 

Directly opposite the Surf, a leisurely 3-minute walk. Patrolled in summer and has a saltwater rock pool. Facilities include a kiosk, picnic tables and toilets.

Convent Beach

If you like your beaches quiet, then Convent Beach is the place for you. Tucked in between Yamba Point and Pippi beach this small hidden beach is close by and can be seen from our Pippi Terrace

Pippi Beach

Pippi’s lies on the southern-exposed side of Yamba’s bay connecting with Angourie. .Pippi turns on the turquoise charm and there’s no beach you’d rather be. Pippi’s is patrolled in season. With picnic tables, parking and toilet facilities all available. A leisurely 10-minute stroll

 

Turners Beach

Between the break wall and the lighthouse, Turners Beach is also patrolled in summer and has toilets, showers and picnic tables. The northern and southern ends of Turners Beach are popular for surfing. Fishing off the break wall or rocks.

Whiting Beach 

If looking for a calm, protected beach, head to Whiting Beach. This river beach is a great spot to cool off without the waves and is also a popular place for fishing.

Angourie

An internationally recognised surfing destination with several challenging breaks. Back Beach and Angourie Point are favourites for serious surfers. It’s also one of a few protected surfing reserves in Australia. Spooky Beach is north of Angourie Point.

Everything from beginner, intermediate and advanced Surf Camp Down Under has you covered. They also offer some excellent school holiday and family packages.

SUP Rentals

Standup paddleboards are available for rent for enthusiasts or anyone who simply wants to have a go. Based at Whiting Beach 7 days a week, when the weather is good.

BBQ Boat Hire

A great way to explore the Clarence River, bring lunch, wet a line, drop off for a swim then settle down for a BBQ lunch. A range of self drive runabouts and pontoon boats available.

 

Kayak Fishing

The Kayak co. has a fleet of Hobie Pro Angler kayaks fitted out for everyone from the first time fishing and kayaking novice through to the seasoned expert.

Whale Watching

Yamba is a prime destination for whale watching if you visit between May and October. Choose from several local whale watching tour operators.

Fishing

Fishing fans can catch plenty of fish either at the beach, estuary or off the rocks. You can hire boats and special fishing kayaks, and drop into one of the numerous bait and tackle shops for tips on where the fish are biting. Deep-sea fishing is legendary here too. Both Reel Time Charters and Yamba Fishing and Charters offer fishing expeditions.

 
 

Explore

Yuraygir National Park & Coastal Walk

Yuraygir National Park stretches from Angourie to Red Rock and is a coastal national park where generations of the Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr people camped and fished. The park has diverse bioregions to explore. Spot endangered coastal emus, squirrel gliders, eastern grass owls and the rufous bettongs marsupial. The walk involves a range of conditions, from easy to moderately challenging.

Angourie’s Blue Pools

A former bluestone mine up until 1899, Angourie’s freshwater green and blue pools are popular picnic spots, swimming holes and walking trails. The former quarry sites supplied rock to build the Yamba break wall. The pools are in the Angourie Reserve (between Spooky Beach and Angourie Beach).

Yamba Markets

Yamba farmers market is open from 7am until 12noon on Wednesday. This is the perfect place to purchase fresh, organic produce and delightful prepared food and packaged food made by locals. The Yamba River Market is also highly popular among locals and travellers who arrive in time for the last Sunday of each month. Held on the Clarence River, the market features local crafts, delicious fruit, organic vegetables and live entertainment.

 

Visit Maclean & Grafton

Maclean is a charming town with a mosaic of farmland, cane fields and fishing boats along the Clarence River. Maclean is proud of its Scottish heritage, showcased at the Maclean Bicentennial Museum and the Scottish Cairn. The best time to visit Maclean is during the Highland Festival. Grafton is also worthy of a visit, especially during the Jacaranda Festival (October) when the city’s tree-lined avenues ablaze with purple blossoms. 

Clarence River Cruise

There is no better way to enjoy the beautiful Clarence River than to book a river cruise and fishing trip. You may consider renting a BBQ boat, catch some great fish and cook it straight away.

Yamba Golf & Country Club

The Yamba Golf & Country Club’s first three holes were built in 1956 and the golf course has grown from strength to strength, being named QLD PGA Regional Pro-AM in 2016 and 2017, two years in a row.

Even if you’re not a golfer, you’ll enjoy the lovely view from the clubhouse and The Deck Café is a good spot for breakfast, lunch or a chilled beverage.

Art Galleries

Yamba is a great place to check out the work of talented local artists. Yamba Art Space is home to a contemporary Gallery featuring original artworks by Northern rivers artists. Over 15 permanent artists are on exhibition and casual and group exhibitions commence throughout the calendar year.

The Ferry Park Gallery is another great place to find local artists’ work.

Yamba Historical Museum

This small museum operated by the Port of Yamba Historical Society has displays that focus on Yamba’s maritime history. Yamba Museum is on River Street, Yamba. Opening hours are Tuesday to Thursday (10 am to 4.30 pm), Saturday and Sunday (2 pm to 4.30 pm).
